Watching Invictus

Today I watched Invictus and as a black South African,I wasnt impressed at first. I started thinking to myself "Damn these Americans, why dont they tell their own stories?" Then I watched the movie and 30 min into the movie I listen to Matt Damon speaking and all I thought was WOW! This guy is AMAZEBALLZ! I didnt see this American guy trying to portray a South African, I saw a white afrikaans South African(Dont know if im saying that right). It made me understand the difference between using a South African actor and using a Hollywood actor. I doubt anyone would have been able to portray the role of Mandela or even Pienaar the way Matt and Morgan did. I think their acting gave the movie that star quality. South African film makers have alot to learn but I believe in the South African brand. So what if America has taken over? We dont have to copy anyone else when we are our brand. Our stories could never be the same as that of the americans. When they look at us they think jungle, war and uncivilised. We are non of those things, we have things to offer, great things.

Do I support America?
Hells yeah!
Am i crazy about SA?
Hells yeah!
Do I see SA going somewhere?
Hells yeah!
Do I think we will ever be like America?
Who needs another America when there is alot of gold to be dug in SA?!

Moral of the story:
South Africa is a great country with a lot to offer, so many overseas artists are starting to discover what a great place this is. We need to embrace the part our nation that makes us unique. We have had many a great men who have been recognised from this land. There are still millions left undiscovered. We need to start cultivating our own talent and appreciating it. It doesnt matter if other people dont appreciate them,  they are ours.

VIVA SOUTH AFRICA! VIVA!
